The renovation of souk Al-Amir is a part of a project for renovating the historical old souk area of old Kuwaiti town. The project is the first of three to be completed, Souk al-Zal, Souk al-Sarafeen, and Souk al-Amir, renovated in the traditional style. The study enclosed shows the study and surveys process for renovating this vital area including analysis of climate condition and the use of traditional materials.
Souk Al Zal was designed to reflect traditional elements and spaces. Exterior walls are built in concrete with masonry infill and synthetically colored in order to blend with the old walls of Kuwait. Doors and windows are of teak and the ceilings are finished with woodwork inspired by existing old souks.
